Job Description
RESPONSIBILITIES: - Prep and splice fiber optic cables, locate problem areas and perform other repairs as needed. This requires proficiency with fusion splicer and fiber test equipment.
- Install and maintain transmission and reception equipment for FTTH network.
- Install and maintain network systems for private lines and determine solutions for any issues preventing the service from operating normally.
- Initiate test and turn-up procedures with System Engineers in accordance with company compliance standards.
- Collect and interpret engineering documentation, to include schematics, fiber management systems and performance OTDR reports.
- Support field maintenance teams, including: IT, regional engineering teams and any other department as related to fiber network.
- Provide demand and preventive maintenance for fiber network & FTTH.
- Maintain proper network documentation on changes and upgrades.
- Troubleshoot MDF/headend issues with 3rd party providers.
- Work within the engineering team to ensure all connections are within required specifications.
- Work on an on-call schedule rotation as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- High school diploma or recognized equivalent required
- Excellent oral and written communications skills in English.
- Must have active and clean, non-restrictive, state issued driver's license in State where hired
- At least 3 years hands-on/field experience in fiber splicing, test equipment & restoration
- Demonstrated proficiency using fusion splicing machine
- Must understand the underlying theories and concepts of broadband communication and including fiber optics and Metro Ethernet networks
- Ability to use advanced test equipment like OTDR's, optical power meters and other fiber testing equipment as required
- SCTE certification a plus
- Ability to work days, weekends, evenings and holidays and participate with on-call rotation as needed
