Salary: $105,626 to $137,314

General Function :

Reporting to the Director of Airfield Maintenance and Grounds, the Fleet Maintenance Manager is responsible for coordinating and scheduling vehicle maintenance repairs to include preventative, mechanical, and electrical repair for a wide range of vehicles and equipment including gasoline and diesel-powered equipment, heavy construction equipment, firefighting, and snow removal equipment, as well as any non-powered accessories owned by the Authority. Provides supervision and technical support to vehicle mechanics while also directly conducting and assisting in vehicle maintenance work. Ensures repair work is conducted in a safe, efficient, and effective manner with the proper tools.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervises, prioritizes, and assigns work for the timely inspection, repair, and servicing of fleet vehicles (gasoline and diesel-powered) and non-powered accessories to include but not limited to repairing, replacing and maintaining brakes, pumps, lights, steering gears, starters, generators, universal joints, and hydraulic systems.
  • Performs cost benefit analysis to determine if vehicle maintenance work should be conducted by Authority staff or contracted to a third party.
  • Provides training and mentoring to direct reports to assist in their development and knowledge of vehicle and equipment maintenance.
  • Oversees and ensures adequate inventory and timely ordering of parts.
  • Ensures timely and accurate recordkeeping of vehicle inspections, repairs and maintenance and utilizes the Authority's work order system and fleet management software to its fullest extent.
  • Performs and oversees welding and fabrication work.
  • Makes emergency repairs in the field.
  • Maintains work areas and equipment in a clean, safe, and orderly fashion.
  • Ensure all work performed adheres to DOT, OSHA, and all Authority safety policies, including but not limited to the correct selection and use of appropriate tools, PPE, machine guarding, and established best safety practice.
  • Conducts preventive maintenance and mechanical repairs on passenger boarding bridges as requested.
  • Performs snow removal and operates snow removal equipment as assigned.
  • Subject to work extended hours and emergency call-in.
  • Performs other assignments and duties as directed.

Employment Qualifications:

•Must possess a valid Driver's License and maintain appropriate Authority driving privileges.

•Strong interpersonal skills that positively influence employees and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including staff and external partners.

•Demonstrated experience operating a variety of vehicles including skid steer loaders, front-end loaders, backhoes and dump trucks.

•Must be detailed oriented with strong organizational and basic analytical skills.

•Ability to work in a team environment as well as work independently while exercising sound judgement.

•Basic Microsoft Office Suite skills.

•Ability to effectively communicate over a two-way radio, email, phone, and person-to-person.

•Must pass criminal history background check and maintain eligibility for a security access badge in accordance with the Authority's Airport Security Plan.

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED and completion of technical program in vehicle mechanics.
  • Must have demonstrated a professional understanding of vehicle maintenance.
  • A Minimum of 5 years' experience in the maintenance and repair of gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.
  • ASE certifications preferred.

This position is a standard 1 shift (7:00AM-3:30PM).

Physical/Environmental Requirements :

This position is primarily performed in a garage/shop setting but may be required to work outside in varying weather conditions. The position requires frequent movement from one work location to another over uneven or inconsistent surfaces. Which also involves exposure to noise, vibrations, chemical, and other contaminants, moving mechanical hazards, and extremes of temperature and weather conditions. Must have sufficient visual acuity, with or without corrective lenses; sufficient auditory ability, with or without audio logical devices; able to tolerate exposure to noise levels up to 120 decibels; capable of being on one's feet for extended periods of time. Additional physical requirements include stooping, standing, walking, lifting, pushing climbing stairs/ladders and the ability to lift/carry 50 lbs. unassisted. Must be able to distinguish colors as required to discern light-gun signals from the Air Traffic Control Tower. This class specification should not be interpreted as all inclusive.
