Position Summary: The Golf Instructor is a full-time position responsible for leading all Player and Youth Development (PYD) programming in the OC community, with potential assignments at other sites as needed. Our PYD team members are experts in youth development and junior golf instruction and are recognized as leaders in the junior golf field. They are passionate about helping kids reach their potential on and off the course.
As the lead coach on-site, the Golf Instructor will conduct all golf activities and collaborate closely with the Assistant Director and team to develop, improve, and expand programs in the OC community. The PYD team is dedicated to growing junior golf and nurturing lifelong golfers throughout the community. Golf Instructors play a crucial role in upholding the standards of the SCGA Junior Golf Foundation, creating positive experiences and lasting impressions for all participants.
This position requires flexibility in scheduling, including evening and weekend hours, and may involve working at various sites within the assigned geographic area. The starting pay rate is $21.00 per hour, with eligibility for a full-time benefits plan.
Key Responsibilities: - Accountable for overseeing and implementing program and safety policies at assigned community facilities.
- Provide oversight and feedback regularly to a team of part-time youth coaches.
- Serve as a positive role model and influence to assigned youth players and coaches.
- Set a standard for development by using positive reinforcement when instructing and coaching in an organized and safe manner.
- Serves as a lead golf coach at beginner, intermediate, and advanced practices and other events as necessary.
- Capable of providing strong verbal and written communications and notifications to community members, facilities, and community partners regarding programming, initiatives, etc.
- Assist in identifying and determining outreach organization partners to promote the Foundation's community engagement initiatives better.
- Provide one-on-one instruction to juniors on an as-needed basis.
- Collects, records, and produces accurate and timely reports of program data
- Manages attendance, rosters, equipment inventories, and data capture related to all programming
- Develops curriculum and lesson plans as needed.
- Be a positive ambassador for golf and the SCGA Junior Golf Foundation.
- Other duties and tasks as necessary and relevant.
Essential Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
- At least one year of experience as a Golf Instructor or in a golf coaching/supportive role, with additional preferred experience in youth development or community outreach.
- Strong customer service orientation with excellent communication and interpersonal skills; outgoing and comfortable presenting to small groups.
- Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with other departments and team members to achieve organizational goals.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, pivot, and adapt to changing situations and environments.
- Enthusiasm for working with youth groups and children of all ages within the community.
- Consistently conveys a positive, professional, and approachable demeanor.
- Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods, including bending/stooping; lift and move up to 25 lbs., and occasionally lift and move up to 50 lbs. with minimal assistance.
- Capable of working outdoors for extended periods and in various weather conditions.
- Flexible schedule, with availability to work evenings and weekends as required.
- Reliable transportation with the ability to travel and arrive punctually at assigned work locations.
