Head Coach of Men's & Women's Cross Country

Responsibilities:
POSITION SUMMARY: Directs, leads, and oversees all coaching/instructing duties for the sport of Cross Country, assuring compliance with all NJCAA, Region XVI, and MCCAC rules and regulations as well as Jefferson College policies and procedures. FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB 1. Coaching/Teaching- Utilize sport specific field/floor coaching and teaching strategies/methods during games/practices to optimize season long success of sport/team. (50% of daily work schedule)2. Game and Practice Management- Conduct and supervise all games/practices/events in the assigned sport according to the rules and regulations prescribed by the NJCAA, Region XVI, MCCAC, and Jefferson College. (10% of daily work schedule)3. Supervising/Disciplining Athletes- Monitor the behavior of student-athletes in assigned sport while in settings on and off campus, including student housing, where athletes are representing Jefferson College to ensure the highest standards of citizenship, sportsmanship, academic success, and conduct. Also provide to the Director of Athletics reports of athlete misbehavior and disciplinary actions taken to modify the misbehavior. (5% of daily work schedule)4. Athlete Health Care- Coordinate all matters relating to athletes' health with the Jefferson College Athletic Trainer, the Director of Athletics, and the Administrative Specialist to the Director of Athletics. (1% of daily work schedule)5. Academic Monitoring- Work with the Student Athlete Success/Communications Coordinator to assure eligibility status and appropriate academic progress of the student-athlete. Specific attention should be given to encouraging an athlete toward completion of graduation requirements. (5% of daily work schedule)6. Promoting Sophomores- Recommend to 4 year college athletics staff all Jefferson College athletes wishing to transfer. Emphasis should be placed on securing athletics scholarships for athletes wanting to continue their pursuit of athletic/academic career. (1% of daily work schedule)7. Recruiting- Identify and secure high level student athletes for sport participation and award appropriate scholarship amounts while abiding by all rules and regulations prescribed by the NJCAA, Region XVI, MCCAC, and Jefferson College. (5% of daily work schedule)8. Scheduling- Submit for approval to the Director of Athletics a schedule of all games/contests and practices for pre-season scrimmages, regular season, and post season by date set by the Director of Athletics. (5% of daily work schedule)9. Travel Planning- Submit for approval to the Director of Athletics all arrangements for team travel, athlete recruiting, opponent scouting, and professional development events by date set by the Director of Athletics. (1% of daily work schedule)10. Budgeting- Provide for approval to the Director of Athletics and abide by a fiscally responsible yearly budget that would include athletics equipment, contracts for referees/officials, team transportation costs (meals, hotels, vehicles, gas, etc.), field/court maintenance, and recruiting expenses. (5% of daily work schedule)11. Facilities Care- Oversee care of courts/fields for the assigned sport including preparation for intercollegiate contests. Make regular checks on condition of facilities and equipment before and after use while enforcing all rules and regulations of the College and the Athletic Department including safety rules. (5% of daily work schedule)12. Purchasing/Inventory of Equipment- Submit to the Director of Athletics for approval all purchase requests for assigned sport and provide all inventory reports requested to control the inventory of athletics equipment and field/court maintenance supplies. (5% of daily work schedule.)13. Reporting- Gather, calculate, and submit to the Director of Athletics, Jefferson College Public Relations Office, NJCAA National Office, and appropriate local media outlets, requested data for team/individual statistics, game results, and web site information needed to comply with NJCAA, Region XVI, MCCAC, and Jefferson College. (1% of daily work schedule)14. Public Relations- serve as the primary representative of your specific sport to all internal and external constituencies to promote and enhance the image of your sport as well as all other Jefferson College sports, MCCAC, Region XVI, NJCAA, and Jefferson College. (1% of daily work schedule)15. Fundraising- Coordinate all external/internal revenue generating initiatives/events with the Director of Athletics and the Executive Director of the Jefferson College Foundation to enhance the sports operating budget. (As needed)16. Hiring/Supervising Assistant Coaches- Recommend to the Director of Athletics, assistant coaches for hire to the Jefferson College Athletics Staff and submit to the Director of Athletics a yearly evaluation and performance review of assistant coaches. (As needed)17. Maintaining/Implementing Rules Knowledge- Coach should remain current regarding all sport specific playing rules, the NJCAA Handbook, MCCAC, Region XVI eligibility, recruitment, and transfer rules as well as transfer rules/requirements for NCAA/NAIA. (As needed)18. Attending Meetings- Attend all meetings required of the athletics staff pertaining to MCCAC, Region XVI, NJCAA, Jefferson College, and Jefferson College Athletics. (As needed)19. Other duties and guidelines as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Qualifications:
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:1. Experience in cross country either as a student-athlete at a collegiate institution or at the professional level.2. Demonstrate at least two years of successfully coaching cross country.3. Proven success of recruiting student-athletes in the sport of cross country.4. Knowledge of NJCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes.5. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in the College and community.6. Ability to lead and guide student-athletes in the assigned sport.7. Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.8. Ability to make sound administrative/procedural decisions and judgement.9. Ability to work respectfully and effectively in a multi-ethnic/multi-cultural environment with students, faculty, and staff.10. Ability to speak effectively to employees/staff and community organizations.11. Bachelors Degree or above required.
